Reading with Rocky
Our mission is to motivate children toward successful positive, lifelong reading habits by helping them discover the joys of reading and the wonders of learning by connecting them to the characters of a book through live interaction and reinforced integrated classroom curriculum.
If you are in a Henderson County first-grade classroom, then Reading with Rocky is for you! The program is a FREE, fun way to get kids excited about reading! As the program concludes, your first grade classroom will travel to Blue Moon Stables (Rocky’s home) to learn more about a working farm.*
*Schools will be responsible for transportation costs.
EQUINE LITERACY PROGRAM

Reading with Rocky is an Equine-Assisted Learning program that reinforces literacy at its roots. The program uses experiential real-world learning to promote a love of reading.
We visit your first grade classroom and bring Rocky and Spud, our miniature horses
Your students receive a weekly penpal letter from Rocky to introduce the theme
Our six-week curriculum of equine activities highlights literacy, math, science, and art
A weekly spelling list of equine words is reinforced during activities
We provide one FREE book about horses for each student to add to their collection
